The first ride
Somehow this picture of me as a 9 year old boy made the front cover of the Amarillo newspaper.
walk
We walked to breakfast, lunch, dinner, school, chapel, sporting events and our jobs. Sometimes just because we were bored, a few of us would throw rocks at each other along the way. What?
Compassion
Cal and Mimi Farley got together and decided to commit themselves to kids. They moved from ideas to actions and thousands of us are better for it.
My first dorm
When I went to Boys Ranch as a 9 year old this was my first dorm. My two older brothers lived in a dorm for older boys.
Where it happened
It was in this chapel, in 1967, where several of us in the choir saw Mr. Farley, who founded the ranch, slump over to one side and eventually pass away. His last moments were in the chapel with his boys.
2nd place
Not the greatest bull in the competition but have to admit, not the greatest bull rider either. Incredible how many of the old hymns of the faith would come to mind when I'd sit down on one of these animals: "Take My Life" "When We All Get To Heaven" "There Is Power In The Blood" "Lord I'm Coming Home" "I'll Fly Away" "In The Sweet Bye And Bye" My favorite, when beginning to sit down on one of these beautiful 2,000 pound animals was: "All Creatures Of Our God And King... Lord Please Help Get Me Off This Thing, Hallelujah!!!"

This was what my home looked like when I was 11 years old. My dorm, Jim Hill Home, is the one at the back. Notice the trails up over the hills behind the dorm? I used to love to go up over the hills to the ponds back at the back right, and catch water moccasin snakes. For some reason I could never get anyone to go with me.
